Stopped in to share some pictures with you all
I know ,,I know I sold my Fiat and now have none but my plans are to some day buy another.. So heres hoping all are doing well and still having fun with their Spiders as I did while owning mine.
If I would of had my Fiat the other day when the sun came out so pretty here in northwest Oregon,,then it would of been in the pictures I have here ,,but that cannot be so I still I want to share the pictures ..
I and the Mrs took the ferry from the Oregon side of the Columbia river to the other side to Pugent Island ,,which is in Washington State. We then drove down to the Ocean and stopped along the way at this quaint little place to have a couple of Ales ..I guess that might of been a couple each.. LOL ,,as there were so many things to look at in this Pub. We then traveled on some 40 miles to the coast and then crossed over the 4 mile long bridge into Astoria Oregon .. We then took highway 30 on the Oregon side of the Columbia river back home ,, hope you enjoy the pictures as you always used to thank me for the ones I used to post..
Nice to read about what you all are doing and it does make me feel like I lost a real friend when I think of the fiat spider I had to sell.. LD

GOPAPA,
Your making me jealous. We used to live in Longview WA and drove up to Astoria OR all the time. Rode bikes up at Forst Stevens, then made our way down to Cannon Beach. Have since moved back home to Cincinnati and have missed Oregon and Washington ever since.
Thanks for sharing Brings back great memories.

Hey Papa! Nice to see you're well and kicking. That sure is a beautiful Chevy you have there and the ride on the ferry reminds me of the trips the kids and I take going from Cape Hatteras to Ocracoke...always a facinating ride and fun to get to the other side.

Reminds me of the Outer Banks and the NC Ferry system. Have some great memories of summer trips down to Atlantic Beach NC on the Crystal Coast. As a matter of fact we just drove down last year. Still a great place to vacation

The Fiat's not red, is it? I think I see it!
Hey Papa, remember when you posted a pic of the Cheasapeake Bay Tunnel and asked if anyone had been on it? I took the kids and a couple of their friends to the Outer Banks for vacation, then drove through the tunnel to get to Philly, where the 2009 FFO was being held. It was pretty awesome driving in the middle of all that water, then under it, but it was raining the whole time and I was in Big Red, the Suburban instead of a Fiat.

It was a long time ago but I remember when I was a youngin' we'd go to Cape Hatteras to see the lighthouse there and hang out. Good times!mdrburchette wrote:Hey Papa! Re: Stopped in to share some pictures with you all
Hi all,
Yes I've been driving down to the Outer Banks on vacation for the last 20 years. I really like the area. We take the Cape May /Lewes Ferry from NJ and head south. We also take the Bay Bridge Tunnel and we always use the NC Ferry System. We take our time driving down. We are on vacation so why rush.
I don't know if you guys have heard but they moved the Hatteras Light House They actually moved it a few hundred yards. Too much sand was being erroded so they had to move it.
We always find something new and intresting to do. Have you ever toured the Life Saving Stations on the Outer Banks? That's when men were men. How about the Museum in Beuford to see the Queen Annes Revenge (Black beards last ship) We were there when the Pirates invaded the town. Lot's of fun. ARGH!
The beaches in NJ are nice. I live 20 minutes from Pt. Pleasant and Manasquan. We love to walk the beach in Spring Lake and Sea Girt. Cape May and Wild Wood are also nice. Long Beach Island is also another favorite. We hold our light house run there. Anybody gets up this way let us know and we will give you the NJ Fiat Tour

Re: Stopped in to share some pictures with you all
I agree that rt. 13 down the DelMarVa peninsula is the easiest route there. The Cape May ferry is one of our favorites, too. As soon as the ramp bell rings, I know I'm on vacation!
My major objection to the Outer Banks is the horrendous traffic. Essentially one 2-lane road running the entire length of the barrier islands. All rentals are Saturday to Saturday, so thousands of people are all trying to get in and out. The 13 mile stretch between Kitty Hawk and Corolla is often more than an hour drive. On my last (and I mean last) trip, my sister went to see the Hatteras lighthouse being moved. She never got there; the ferry was always full, locals being able to cut in line. And unlike the Jersey Shore, you must drive everywhere, and the few restaurants aren't very good by comparison.
The other big problem is the surf. Five paces and the water is over your head. A few miles offshore, the water is thousands of feet deep, so you can imagine the rip currents. No lifeguards. I'm an experienced open water swimmer (Chesapeake, Alcatraz, etc.) and I shudder when I see people in that water.
We'll wave, though, as we pass each other on Delaware Bay! Hope to see you on a lighthouse drive up your way.

Re: Stopped in to share some pictures with you all
I have family that live in Frisco, right beside the Hatteras pier so I visit pretty frequently. I notice the traffic is pretty bad on the north end, around Kitty Hawk, but on the south end, I don't have a problem at all. I always try to hit the ferries in the morning, before the rush and have never waited long to get on. The reason I enjoy the Outer Banks is because there aren't as many people as Myrtle Beach and it's not as commercialized. The rip currents can be rough!

The Fiat is red and it was a 850 ,,It was the one in the center of the picture and to the left of the other red car I believe,,didn't see any Spiders while at the swap meet..mdrburchette wrote:The Fiat's not red, is it? I think I see it!

I do remember the picture I posted and still have it ,,I enjoy the chat the forum members have to say about this man made wonder of a tunnel bridge and also the areas that it takes you to ..thanks all for the compliments on the truck although that is not why I posted the Ferry Trip to show it off , just wanted to say that .. I would of taken the 82 Spider I had if I still owned it as the wife will ride in a convertable now she says and not worry about her hair ..LOL
Is this an extention of the picture you took while in "ol big Red with the kiddies" ?.. LD
