Update on paint job
Re: Update on paint job
I painted the door jams both on the doors and in the body with the doors off then put them on before painting the outside.

Very impressive! I can't wait to see the finished car. I like the quality of the work and the thought you've put into modifications. Very tasteful so far.

Thanks to azygoustoyou, I just saw this thread. Very nice work!
Not to hijack, but does anyone know what that intake manifold is that he's running?

Cool. I couldn't decide if that's what it was or not.
Thanks!

Hi Ken, nice work with the car. What you're doing is what so many of us have done countless times to our cars within our own heads. Henry David Thoreau was right that "most men lead lives of quiet desperation". Congrats on living in real-time.
I love the roadster style tonneau that you've built, and I'd really like to see/understand how you went about making it. Any info/pics would be greatly appreciated, as my creation will someday leap from the semi-conscious mind, and onto the Spider...
Thanks in advance,
-Chad

Ken, oh man, I don't know where to start.
Tell us about the carb set up. Have you run the motor?
What did you do cosmetically to the head and covers? Paint, polish?
I can only dream.

Re: Update on paint job
All I was going to do was paint the car and things just got out of hand, I bought the car new, the only thing I didn’t like was the back seat and I thought about covering it up like my 58 sprite was but it took a lot of thinking to start cutting it up. I made a plywood mock up and covered the back seat while I was doing other work so I could get use to the look and I liked it, but it still took me a while to really start cutting on it.
It doesn’t seem like a lot has gone on since I last posted pictures, I don’t have the time to work on cars like I had the past few years so I am down to a couple hours a day and week ends, I don’t know if you would call it un-retired or re-worked but where I retired from is real behind on getting out their work load. The good news is it’s a machine shop and I will get to make more cool stuff, like cam covers, reworking the air cleaner covers and making a new cover for the master cylinder to match them.
I will be sending out the headers to get coated very soon, I put an 8 inch double diaphragm booster with a GM style disk disk master cylinder. I will get the new distributor from mark and when I make the cam covers I will move the oil fill to the old distributor location, unless someone tells me it wont work but I cant see a problem with it yet.
The roll bar is from a Miata, its just sitting there in the picture it will get a stiffener going from where the mount is cut off to the old seat belt location the side mounts bolt to the old top pivot mount location and the seat belts will bolt to the roll bar mount. So far I am going to use either Scat or Glide seats both seats are the same size as the original but with more support and the Glide has more color options.
Next I am thinking of hood scoops like a couple of you have done.

Re: Update on paint job
You mentioned using Mark's electronic distributor. Looking at the carburetor setup. No clearance issues? The electronic dist. will fit there without hitting the intake?
