Weather Stripping Help
Weather Stripping Help
I am having difficulty locating the weather strip for the convertible top bow. Maybe it's my searching skills, I have checked IAP Bruces Bayless with no luck. Can anyone point me in the right direction?

Found it I think. http://www.fiatspider.com/f08/viewtopic.php?f=19&t=3610
It doesnt look the same since the original looks to be made specific for the application and this does not, but I guess it would work.

Re: Weather Stripping Help
That item is the weatherstripping itself, however there is also a formed hard plastic strip that is used to hold down that weatherstripping. I have two of those plastic pieces if that is the part you are looking for.

Re: Weather Stripping Help
Your right that looks alot different then the bow seal in my car. I need a new one too from previous owners not making sure it was seated right before closing the top. If you get it let me know how it turns out for you. Might want to give them a call and make sure it fits your year and is the right piece.

Re: Weather Stripping Help
I am looking for the soft rubber piece that keeps the weather out. Mine appears to be a molded piece out of foam that has flat ends specifically made for the top. This appears to be an extruded piece of rubber that has no specific application.
I also need the plastic (mentioned in other thread not the one Matt mentioned) that protects the top from the header bow. Here is the order of parts my car has. Header bow (metal), small plastic piece to protect top (needed), interior vinyl, top, foam rubber seal and plastic holding the seal on.

Chris,
I just looked at the weatherstripping I have, and the plastic hold down pieces. http://www.flickr.com/photos/bigtimes_f ... 0/sizes/o/
You will notice that one has the tabs while the other does not. Since the weatherstripping pieces are extrusions, they are the same along the entire length, you would need a mold to make a piece with tabs on the end.
The conclusion is that you cut the tabs, by selectively removing material from the extrusion. That is why some cars have the tabs and some do not, PO maintenance for ya.
Here are a few pictures of the "tab" ends to show how to cut the extruded weatherstripping. The tab is actually the tube part of the extrusion, it gets compressed flat.

If someone needs the plastic piece I will include the weather stripping also.
