hood swap!

Post by TulsaSpider »

Ok well lesson learned. I had a nasty dent in the front edge of my hood when I got the car. I got impatient and had someone (not a shop) repair it for me along with filling the holes in the decklid. Well my Stepbrother is a top notch body/paint man who has fallen on some hard times so he agreed to help me and paint my car. He said the job,( which looked ok to me) was crap, and that the hood could be fixed but it may not be worth the time and effort. The decklid was just wavy. So I told him about my parts car which is a big bump 79. The hood and decklid seemed to be in pretty descent shape. I don't like the big bump hoods but I suppose it will grow on me. Will the hinges bolt to the exact same place on the hood? same fit? I realize the differences in the prop open devices (the terminology escapes me). Same with the decklid?
any tips?
Thanks
Clark

Yes the hinges will all bolt up or we can swap hoods! I like the big bubble ones :)

Yeah I like the big bump hoods too. Or the flat hoods. Never been a fan of the small bumps though. Go big or go home I guess :P

They'll grow on you though, they're pretty neat and I feel tough driving around because you can always see them on your hood sticking up. Kinda makes me think I'm driving one of these:

and I feel a lot faster

Nick, I've been trying to imagine what the missing photo is! I find that my '81 "big bumps" hood also gives me that "tough" feeling, and somehow I imagine I'm driving an AC Cobra/Fiat sort of monster

So what is that missing photo?

Haha I'm glad I'm not the only one! For me it's the Olds 442 like in the picture above. I'm trying to look at cars online (not that I haven't seen most of them already) to find other ones that fit the description but there are surprisingly few. I think its a more of a muscle car thing. Perhaps that's why we feel tougher. It's like the hood is bulging from the massive (haha) engine underneath!

I have a big bump hood swapped on my '74. No problems. I think they look good.
