Is this a good deal?
Is this a good deal?
I am new to the forum and looking to purchase my very first Fiat. Someone locally has a 81 Spider for sale. The body is very solid, top needs replaced and interior as well. But the 2.0l engine has a huge hole in the block on the rear drivers side. He is only asking $300 for the car. I am pretty sure I am going to purchase it. Does anyone know where I could find a good block? Or what other engines I could swap in easily? Not sure what engines and transmissions can fit. Would like to put a newer motor out of another manufacturer but this will be my first Fiat rebuild and want it to be a pleasant experience. Any input would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Eric in Michigan

Solid body and 300.00.... heck yeah!
On the engine... depending on the internal damage (whether the crankshaft was damage or not) you might be able to patch the hole, install a new aux shaft and move on... if the crankshaft was not damage and the bearing support for the aux shaft are still good...
Here is my thread on that:

I'd buy it. Even if the engine is shot, you can pick one up pretty cheap. Just one example, there is one listed here in St. Louis on CL out of an 82 for $400, complete minus injectors. You're not that far away to come get it. And there is a strong Michigan group that can probably hook you up with one closer to home. Have fun!
