Great Story

Post by jsdieter »

So today I walk out of school to the garage and I found my Spider sitting in a pool of gas. So of course I call my dad and does not believe that it could be that bad. While he coming from his office a few miles away a teacher sees all the gas and freaks out. He calls the administrators and they just keep coming. At one point there were about half a dozen and more from the bleachers behind us were watching and talking on the walkie talkies. The funniest thing came from them when they asked how many administrators does it take to fix a gas leak. At one point Petey (if you have seen Remember the Titans it is him, he works at TC Williams) even came to see. So these administrators just want to go home so they call the school cops (not the first time my car has attracted police) and then they come up to the parking deck. My dad eventually shows up and he said it was a pretty impressive gas leak. So now there are so many people looking at my car including teachers and students many of which i know. One of the teachers said they had an X1/9 that blew up and this made everyone even more paranoid about the car blowing up. The administrators yell at a teacher to put out her cigarette not because she was smoking on campus but because they didn't want us to blow up. They even have to call teachers to have them move their cars, one of which i talk to about cars all the time so he will never let me forget this. Then the hazmat guy comes. He wouldn't even let me fix the leak which we found to be in the rubber hose between the fill pipe and the gas tank. it takes like a hour and a half to fix. To top it off he makes me take all the gas filled kitty litter. The worst part is i just filled it up on Friday and i lost like half a tank! UGH!

Same thing happened to me - I have a nice dissolved patch in my driveway where the fuel reacted with the bitumen.

A similar story happend to me when I was in high school and had my first spider. One day I filled up the tank on the way to school. Parked it on the street, and during 2nd period I got a call to go to the principles' office. They said I needed to move my car to the gas station down the street because it was leaking gas all over the street. When I got to the car there was a 30 foot long "rainbow" trail of gas. That's how I discovered the gas tank was made in 2 halves. From then on I could only fill up 1/2 way.

I kinda, and I use that loosly, had the same thing happen to me. I was 17 and my dad came in my room and started giving me the riot act and questioning me about what I did to my car because it was leaking gas all over the driveway. I kinda went like - what? No way. Show me. He took me out and we both looked at it and then he swipped some of it up and said it was water. I told him I had a bunch of wet wetsuits in the trunk from surfing earlier that day and they must have leaked out or something. He bought it.

What it really was was about 4 bags of ice and 2 cases of beer in the trunk for the beach party that night. Yeah, I used to just dump the ice in the spare tire holder and go.

Hmmm, a while ago my son and I went to go look at a good looking 850 sitting behind a fence in the junk yard. We called and the guy said the car was 100 percent there. He had just replaced the fuel pump. So we are standing at the rear of the car admiring the engine bay, it was very clean. He fired it up and it ran for a few seconds, then a fuel line gave out and fuel went everywhere. It was a hugh fire ball, we all jumped back and the guy just stood there and watched it burn. I was throwing dirt on it and yelling at the moron to get a fire extiguisher. When we finally got it out I asked him what the hell happened. He said I dunno, I just installed a fuel pump off some big fuel injected chevy and it ran fine. I thought, what a moron. A fuel injection fuel pump on a car that maybe runs on 3 lbs of gas. Then I asked him, Whats the price on the car now. He just gave me this dumb founded look and said, Why of course its the same as before. We just walked away laughing...
