New top install

Post by Tersta »

If the weather holds out this weekend I will install my new top. I have Chris Obert's installation guide, but before I start is there anything else I should know?
Thanks

make sure you have a CLEAN work area large enough to spread the new top out. make sure your hands are ALWAYS clean.

highly recommend performing the install on a sunny day... rolling the car out of the garage periodically to warm & stretch the vinyl. cold vinyl retains wrinkles

Put something over the inside and outside of the window to protect it while your installing the top. It doesn't take much to scratch it.

Getting the back of the top perfectly centered will keep you from having gaps over the triangular windows.

The first time you put the top down after installing it make sure it folds into the back seat correctly or you may crease the plastic window.

and after a couple of days check for fit. most likely it will have stretched out and you'll have to tighten the back of the top again to keep the window taut.

if you did not get a reply from me via email, it was because you used that dang cryptic email system offered by the forum, and did not include your return email address in the body of the letter.

please use this with your email request for pictures: mbouse AT chartermi DOT net

HI everyone, We recently put a new top on our 79 as well. It was one of the cheap Ebay ones. It actually came out pretty well. It keeps most of the Seattle rain out, not all but most. Anyway teh only thing I have to finish is glueing the stips around the ribs. Does anyone have any photos of this area after competion. Doi I wrap tight and glue to the ribs? Do I make a tube with the fabric strips ? Thanks
