no headlights
no headlights
ok i turn the switch in the middle.....and i have parking lights and dash lights......i turn...ok...i flip the switch up and i have no headlights or dashlights....or parking lights...it goes from off to parking lights to off.....should i just run them direct to the parking lights......or will they blink with the blinkers??????......what should i check???i cant belive i did a valve job, ajusted them put the whole engine back together, rebuilt the carb, it runs...im not a mechanic......so im doin good so far....and now the headlights??????..one thing after the other...ha ha ha ....but im learning about spiders i guess.....and its soooo much fun to drive.....oh and is 5th gear supposed to whine....and my speedo doesnt work....how fast am i going in 5th at about 6000 rpms?...it seemed fast....i dont usually push it like that but its like a little golf cart to me compared to my other vehicles...

Your switch should be a 3-way. Up is off, middle is parking lights and down is headlights. Did someone put a 2 way toggle in there? If so, you're going to have a good time trying to replace that switch!
Fifth gear shouldn't be any more noisey than the other gears. You may want to check or renew the fluid in the tranny. Check the speedo cable to make sure it's connected.

Denise is correct on that switch. The engineers were not thinking when they decided that down was on, and up was off. Italian electrical engineers must all have been blonde.
Also, the running lights will work w/out the ignition switch on, but most Fiats will not activate headlights unless the ignition switch is also on.
and, both headlights have a separate fuse in the fuse panel. the fuse panel is notorious for causing problems.
Once you check all those out, let us know if you still have headlight issues. there are other places to look, but not until you are sure of these quick look items.
