Fiat Flag

Post by red107 »

I was tired of seeing the Alfa flags everywhere and car shows so I recently got a fiat flag. I was planning to fly it this weekend at car show. Problem is i cant find a flag pole that would fit in my fiat. Any ideas? I was thinking of some PVC pipe one inside the other. The flag is 5X3.

Go to the Home Depot. Buy some wood closet pole by the foot. Its an inch and one eight diameter. about $1/LF. Go the the hardware section. They have rope, pullys, clamping gizmos, boat rope ties, etc. If you want to spend $50 go over to the paint dept at home depot and buy an extendable painting pole. If your really feeling creative. go over to the curtain or deck section and buy an acorn cap for the top of the pole so it has a round top.
Hows that for some ideas?

pvc will not work. will bend easily in a mild breeze, and eventually break at the base, if not collapse mid-way.

look for a fiberglass telescoping flag pole. they actually make them with a screw on flat base; which can be positioned under your wheel.

i am not recommending this vendor. just put their link up as an example.

All Good ideas. Problem is fitting it in the fiat. Shortest collapsible is 8ft. I need something that collapse to 4ft.

HMM, that's a pretty good idea Mike had. You could prolly jimmy something up at your local Home depot :P . A wooden closet pole would be perfect and affordable but toting arround a 10 + ft wooden pole is going to be a bit difficult in a spider :| . Having a pool in my backyard, I tend to look at pool supplies at different places. I picked up a pool pole the other day at the grocery store for $2.50 and is perfect for the skimming net (not the long vaccum pole). It's extends to about 12 ft and collapses in to a 4 ft pole and is about 1.5" in diameter at it's smallest and about 2" at it widest. The reg price was 19.99. So, you could probably pick it up for that. They are pretty sturdy and would accomodate a flag nicely. I would not mind picking up one if they still have them for $2.50 (I got it last week and they are located in the front corner of the store that nobody goes in) and ship it up to you but, by the time that is all said and done, it would prolly cost about 20 bones and take a couple of weeks. I would be willing to bet that they would sell the same thing at target or wal mart. I think it's for an above ground pool so, anywhere that sold those items. EH, just an idea - good luck

i personally use three sections of steel tubing, two are .750" o.d. and one is 1.00" o.d. they each are about 45" long.

of course, i know a welder, and he added 1/4" threaded rod to one end of each tube, and a threaded insert to the other end. my steel plate is 1/8" thick. i need a 50mph wind to make that pole bend with a flag on the upper end.

google search this item. i am positive there are poles that will fit the Spider trunk. i only provided a link to the first one i found for a conceptual discussion.

if you read this before heading out the show bring the flag. I might have a little time at the shop tonight while getting car ready. I might be able to go to Home depot and figure out something at least good enough for Saturdays show. I'll call you if I can get to HD tonight.

Ok we can fly our colors at the show. Bought the 5 foot flag pole at home depot and a 4 foot dowl that just fits inside the flag pole. I had a trim the flag pole down a bit to fit in the trunk. It might not be perfect but it will do for this show. Now that I write this I think I should ahve bought a second dowl and used the piece I cut from the pole as a sleave to connect the two dowls. Then we would have a 12 foot pole.

Why the hell am I writing this?????

Why do we have 6 postings about flag poles. Damn we need a hobby.

Ok this is easy, go to Wally World (Wal-Mart). In the fishing section you will find varying lengths of fiberglass telescoping cain poles up to about 25'. They are very strong and collapse to about 4' as you wanted and are only about $20. I used to use them to pull cable through tough ceilings and they worked like a champ. All you will have to do is figure out what kind of a base you want. They also usually have PVC rod holders you can drive into the ground for beach fishing that you could use as an easy and strong base if the show was on grass.
