You all know how those "Rust Free" gems go. When you really start looking for rust, you find it. - Anyway, I found a few spaces of rust on the passinger's side floor pans so I stripped all the stuff off and cut out rust, ground down rust, fixed rust and patched holes. So, I was looking from underneith the car and the drivers side looked clean. I was going to skip looking from the top down all together but decided to check anyway. I chipped away at the crud a bit and found a little rust dust underneith and decided to just go ahead and clean and grind away everything and just do some preventative stuff. But when I peeled back the heat shield from behind the foot pedals, this is what I found. I am glad I looked. I think I can save it.

there is a product called "RustMort" made by "SEW" spray it on rust and it kills it......used it a hundred times kills rust dead then prime it and paint it

I just bought a quart of SEM Rust-Mort and have been testing it on my steel sundeck. I wonder what benefit this product has over it's most active ingredient, phosphoric acid.

I don't get it? They all have that chrome spider on it. Including the shift knob.

I use the Rust-O-Leium version of this. Ushually, I hit it with a wire wheel really good, clean the area, spray that stuff on untill it turns black then prime with Rust-O-Leium primer then I use a spray on rubber coating on top of that.

I dunn know. I just use the spray stuff cauz it's easy. If their is a better product or procedure, let me know.

Has anyone any experience using Evapo Rust? I haven't tried it on car rust yet but have used it to restore some pretty rusted fittings on old cabinets under restoration and it does an amazing job. No need for gloves, etc., it is far less toxic that some of the other things on the market. Rinses off with water, but if you are soaking parts in it rather than spraying on, it is re-usable several times.

Im not sure about the Rust Mort, but many of the acid rust dissolvers have zinc oxide or something similar that forms a protective coating on the bare metal so it doesn't instantly rust again. I HATE RUST!!
