That looks like the final nail in the cosmetic coffin. Now for the real tough decision, drive it, or stand there and marvle at its beauty.

Re: New heat shield!
I should have put on here that the stainless steel piece is a cover for the heat shield. The heavy stock unit to protect the diz,is still under there.

If you flip the cover so the lip is upwards, you could fry some bacon and eggs
Re: New heat shield!
Wow, that is a really clean motor. I like the way the heat shield looks. Very nice.

Re: New heat shield!
My '82 FI was missing its exhaust heat shield and after 'cooking' a couple of distributor diaphragms and a pickup cable I decided to take corrective action.
The car is now proudly wearing a 'Brady' heat shield, easy to install and looks 'the business' too, thoroughly recommended. All set for the drive to the U.K. Auto Italia event in Warwickshire this coming Saturday, thanks Brady

Re: New heat shield!
Sheeet, you guys is fancy. My ol' `77 has no heat shield, just a cast-iron appearing manifold that is always looking to rust.
From time to time I spritz on a light mist of aluminum engine paint. That covers the rust and looks great. For a while.
But does she need a heat shield? Or was that something only needed on the FI models with all their fancy plumbing?
As to heat damage, I just changed the center wire from my coil to the distributor. The others are still, if not quite original, at least in place for the 22 years I've owner her. Never had a problem with them.
About once a year I've gunked my cars motor after wrapping the sensitive parts in foil. But still I doubt her engine compartment would be chosen as a location for a fashion shoot.

Re: New heat shield!
I spray my exhaust manifold with VHT(VERY HIGH TEMP)paint which is at all parts stores. It stays on there for at least a year.I ,for one, like to keep the engine compartment looking nice.I didnt get any awards at FFO,with my dinged up car,but I looked under the hood of the 3 cars that finished ahead of me.Mine looked way better than any of them.In the past we werent judged unless the hood was up I guess its a personal thing.

Re: New heat shield!
My 82 has someones header on it with no heat shield. Can I put this on with out the stock heat shield? Can everyone donate some money to me so I can buy Mark's header?

Re: New heat shield!
The best exhaust paint by far that I have used is his stuff from Eastwood. Still looks pretty good after 3 years. It goes on like regular paint and not all dry and powdery like most. I even got some black for my wood stove.
