directions?

Post by chief »

hi guy's,
Chief here, i have picked a 76 spider and after having been parked for three years by PO, I am going to get into it
this weekend weather permitting. Per the PO he just parked due to no time to drive which after meeting him i believe he told me right. All in all, just need some affirmation i guess that i am headed down the right road.
first off new belts and hose's
Iam going to replace all fluids.
New timing belt
New plugs
I am going to place a bit of sea foam into the cylinders through the spark plug port. ( to help loosen up the pistons)
will drain old gas out
Hopefully there won't be much corrosion in the fuel tank, but if there is we will take it out and clean it with some muratic acid.
Once accomplished then we will check for spark and and compression test.
Not necessarly in this order.
Perhaps we will forego the compression test and go right to cranking up the engine, who knows?
Anyway this is my plan of attack any suggestions? did i miss anything?
I am a newbie to this so any and all info will be appreciated.

Sounds like you're doing everything right. 3 years is a while but I don't think it fossilized yet. I would check the level of gas and see if it's low enought that you can just fill er up with super and run the old out (you'll find out soon enough if you need to go further concerning the fuel). As for the brake fluid, I would make sure she runs B4 I got into all that. Yeah, quick change of oil and water is always nice. Lubing the pistons is a good idea but again, 3 years to me is not fossilized. Well IMHO anyway. Best of luck . Keep us posted.
