Crane Fireball XR3000
Crane Fireball XR3000
The Crane Fireball XR3000 will be back for everyones use on Febuary 19th. We couldn't be happier to have this wonderful product back with us. We have felt its absence for this last year and hated every minute without this great product.
Re: Crane Fireball XR3000
How much trouble is this to install on a 71 124 with the single points distributor? Do I need to change from my externally resisted ignition coil?
Re: Crane Fireball XR3000
It's super easy to install and take about an hour. Yes, you can use your stock coil, but it might be a little old. A great upgrade and very inexpensive is the Bosch Blue coil.

Great product! I have had no issues in the past 5 years with mine. AutoZone or advanced auto parts and get the MSD blaster 2 coil ~ $40. Also get a new cap and rotor, take the old one and punch a large hole in it near the #1 plug. Now you can visually see the rotor match up with the post of the cap during the trigger setup procedure, you will know what I mean after you read the installation instructions.

Re: Crane Fireball XR3000
Ted, are you using a stock single point distributor in your racecar or did you have the springs and weights changed?

Re: Crane Fireball XR3000
Denise, the race car runs a MSD6AL ignition with a non points/no vacuum dissy, ~ 38 degrees total advance. On the street car yes i run the old single point converson with the Crane xr3000 and had to mess with the springs to limmit the total advance 42 degrees is way too much!
The best would be the a crankfired system like the Electromotive or Mega Jolt systems, but all things cost money.

Re: Crane Fireball XR3000
Thanks Ted. I'm running the same setup as your race car for both my 1608s. I didn't know if I should go with the early model dizzy for the advance curve.

I've been aiming to show Ron that setup. It looks like a nice setup.

The Electomotive setup will run about $1000, while the megajolt system can be had for around $200 if you source the EDIS parts from a pick and pull.
Re: Crane Fireball XR3000
The megajolt sounds interesting...has anyone installed it and is running it?

Racydave has that system, but if you want to discuss it, start another thread.
