Hey Matt,
I tried with the magnet and couldnt find it.I wondered about using a o ring or fibre gasket w/ a bolt.I tried a couple of pipe plugs,in standard sizes, and couldnt get one to fit.I will try a bolt and oring tomorrow.Denise is putting one in the mail, but I would like to get it plugged sooner,so I can go to the races in it this weekend.Does M12X1.5 sound right?

Craig,
Did you try the old trick of recreating the crime? Try dropping a similar size part from the same place (or as close as you can remember), and see where it goes. That corner where the steering box is a tough one of looking for things.

Alvon,
I did a pretty thorough search(CSI would be proud),and even tried the vacuum. The little son of a gun is well hidden! With my luck,it'll fall into the driveway and imbed itself into one of my new tires on the 76

every darn thing that I drop goes in the crossmember, when will I learn to fill it with rags, (I aways think that I'll be ok this time, I won't drop it. Then I do!) As soon as you get another plug and install it, you will find the lost one.

Why don't you pull the plug from the 76 and install it in the 82. Then, when my plug comes in the mail, you can plug the 76? Or, are you afraid you'll drop another one into the abyss?

it's amazing what you find down there when the intake manifold and the brake booster have been removed.

a 9mm socket is nearly the correct size for that plug square head. i found someone elses 9mm socket wedged between the steering box and the firewall last year when i pulled the brake booster from the '78.... never saw it before that moment.

The american pipe plug threads are 1/4" and too big for that hole.
