Trying to isolate my rough idle problem on the '79 Spider 2000. I set the timing again... 10 degrees base timing. I noticed irregular flashing of the timing gun, so I guess plug wires are next on the list.
I noticed a sound of rushing air, and tracked it to the gulp valve on the left fender. Should it be sucking in air all the time through the bottom? When I cover the intake hole, the idle smoothes out. I'm wondering if it may be faulty.
Also, none of the vacuum lines to either the gulp valve or the associated electrovalve are receiving vacuum. Should they have vacuum at idle or when I rev the engine by hand? The vac lines are the original, cloth-wrapped style and appear to be in good condition. Should I replace them all anyway since they are old?
