Jaime, pulling the transmission is pretty straight forward. remove speedo and clutch cable then starter. use a universal joint. then remove four bolts on bell housing. You will need a universal joint for the upper bolts on the transmission. Remove support bracket and drop. Took me about 30 minutes with two people.

Care to elaborate? How so? It is not pitted? I have been cleaning the different parts that I can get to and they are cleaning nicely. Everything turns freely...

Just trying to understand your comment, this is the first transmission I open up to take apart...

A few more photos... this just spraying some WD40 to clean it up... there is not even surface rust on the parts, it is that sludge... if I remove the sludge the part looks fine, at least to me it looks fine... need feedback...

Again, completely clueless when it comes to internals of transmissions...

But I have to remove the shifter assembly, correct? That is the step that I am looking for the procedure...

I am looking at the sliding sleeves that the forks move to put it into a gear. From here, it looks like rust covered. I read back a few response from you and you say that it is grease? It looks like rust to me. Is there rust intermixed with the grease? You will also have to look at the rear section of the trans and I would be interested in what the bearings look like.

I just saw the new photos you posted and it looks like pitting in the metal forks and sliders to me.

Just remove the cover plate on the bottom of the shifter assembly from under the car, and remove the nut that locks the shifter in place. Remove the shifter and that is all it takes.

I borrowed one of Alvons beautiful pics to show you what the trans should look like. Notice that the teeth on the gears are smooth and shiney like chrome. There is no surface pitting.

Yikes!! Yup, it has to all come apart. Pitting on the shafts and gears, not so big a deal but the bearings, yep they can't tollerate any kind of pitting. So was this car flooded at one time?

Ohhh wow, that sure looks pretty... nice and smooth looking and all well lubricated...

Let me remove the tranny and clean it. I could not feel surface pitting when I started poking in there... I hope that is the case and all it needs is a good cleaning.

Worst case, I will think that I paid that money for a good engine, 4 wheels, an interior, glass, trunk lid, and a rear end. :D

Body is scrap, gas tank has a pin size hole but even after fixing that hole I would not reuse it, brakes are toast, and, even if there are good, I don't think I will ever use those frigging heavy bumpers anyway...

Cool! Thank you, I thought the center console and all that had to come out... I was stuck trying to remove the chrome portion of the shifter

Edit: Found how to remove the chrome (top) section of the shifter... but it might be hazardous to my health  : How to remove gear lever extension

I don't know, up until now there was nothing that would have indicated that...

This kit would do it, but much more investigation has to be done to decide if it is even worth it. All the parts in the kit are what you would need to replace anyways.

Thank you, bookmarked that page. Not worth it at this time. This is only a parts car... let's see how the next car's transmission condition looks like...
