See that is typical of me. When I rush I end up doing things twice. Sorry about the double post. Enjoy the day

Thanks for the advice on the fuel pump. Part of the checks we performed was to verify that the fuel pump works and it was able to shoot fuel from a small cup half way across the room so I think it is working quite well. I also have a spare if needed.

Its ALIVE! Spent most of the day removing the injectors and all associated parts and hose and cleaning them. Once everything was installed, it ran on the first time! I seem to either have an exhaust leak or a fluid leak onto the lower manifold so I have to work on that and the throttle body heater still didn't seal so I have to work on that again. Overall I am happy with the day's work.

Great, great! Well done. You feel good and we all do too

It goes to prove (again) that simply working one's way through the system, cleaning, fixing, and making sure everything is in good shape is often the fastest solution to a mindbending problem. Forget the problem (symptom) and focus on establishin a solid system and the problem goes away. (Okay, sorry for the lecture - just a reminder to myself.)

+1, so true. and, lecture away, we can always be reminded of something we knew or learn something new. Image

This weekend, with the help of the Blue Ridge Chapter of FLU and a few additional kind folks, the free-iat has a new timing belt and tensioner bearing. We had a great work session with about 12 Italian car lovers in attendance and one dog. I only managed to break one bolt off, on the coolant T, otherwise everything went pretty smoothly.

Unfortunately, the good feelings didn't last long. After putting the radiator back in and filling the coolant system, I ran the car for a few minutes to burp the system and there was a small pop, a hiss, the car started running poorly and substantial puddle of oil gathering under the car. I quickly turned it off and began investigating. The head gasket had failed at the passenger side corner, near cylinder #1 on the passenger side. So, I guess I get to re-do the timing belt as well as replace the head gasket. I am now trying to decide if, for expedience I should shop out the gasket and concentrate on getting in done quickly and have some road time before FFO or if I should take the plunge and teach myself to change the gasket myself.
