Anyone ordered from this vendor?
Doing a feasibility exercise of restoring my rust bucket... just stay with me for a second... this helps me fill the time
Has anyone bought from them? Price seems a lot better than what IAP charges (479 versus 90 !)

Hi Wachuko,
I have some front fender lips you might want to consider.

Re: Anyone ordered from this vendor?
I've seen you car and Brady's fender arches will repair the rusted out damage. If you are interested in the whole fender, I have a matching set of rear fenders I cut off a 1976 parts car. I was saving them for a guy who "said" he wanted them, but its been 14 months now. They are complete rear fenders which include the rear 1/4 section and the top of the fender that extends to the trunk lid, much more complete than the ebay ones and still cheaper.

Wachuko, sorry don't have any experience with that ebay vendor. Just curious... did you check the car for structural rust? What about the shock towers?

Re: Anyone ordered from this vendor?
I will check it completely this weekend and post photos. Last night I removed the plastic liners under the fenders for a better look.Europa wrote:Wachuko, sorry don't have any experience with that ebay vendor. Just curious... did you check the car for structural rust? What about the shock towers?

Man, you'd better start looking for another car, you're going to start spending so much time & $ on that rust bucket that you won't want to part it out! I was in that situation with a 62 Nova I had in high school, by the time I "fixed" all the rust and spun it out a few times it must have had 5 gallons of bondo in it.

Re: Anyone ordered from this vendor?
Had to take a few photos before going to bed, will take a few more tomorrow...
Under the rear fender, passenger side. I started to remove the undercoating and all the metal underneath looks new... the outer edge is rusted along with the outside of the quarter panel...
I will take more photos over the next few days and share with the folks here to see what you guys think as far as saving or to continue with my plans to use as a parts car...

Eastwood sells some stuff that you spray on the undercoating and then you can scrape it off. It is called Under Gone undercoating remover. Item # 31130z

Re: Anyone ordered from this vendor?
The shiny black areas you see in the photos, those I just used my hands to peel off the undercoating. I will use a plastic scraper to see how much comes out and check the car over. I need to go back to my notes to see what are the structural areas. I will take photos of those areas to share.azygoustoyou wrote:Eastwood sells some stuff that you spray on the undercoating and then you can scrape it off. It might be my mind playing tricks on me, but when I got the car it was "wow! a rust bucket".... and now taking a closer look, cleaning here and there, removing this and that; the areas I tought were rusted out are not rusted out, it was a rust spot here with some surface rust there.... under the coating I am seeing newlike shiny metal...
Let me do my homework on inspecting the shell again and report back.

Re: Anyone ordered from this vendor?
You need to look more closely at the structural part of the unibody to see whether or not you want to fool with this car. If you look at your photo and where you say it needs replacing, I see the rockers themselves look suspect. The rockers consist of a removeable panel, but once that is removed, there are actually three layers of metal making up the most integral part of the unibody. It looks to me like all three have been exposed to the elements. I just don't want you to spend all this time, effort and money to try to make chicken salad out of chicken sh*t....but if you're hell bent on doing it, I'll get back in my corner. You won't know the extent of rust damage until your car is completely stripped.

Re: Anyone ordered from this vendor?
Is there a guide with photos to help me? Where should I be looking? Like I said, I will remove the rockers and see what it looks like in there, removed the front fender covers, see around the front crossmember under the engine.mdrburchette wrote:You need to look more closely at the structural part of the unibody to see whether or not you want to fool with this car. All I need is feedback on where exactly to look. Thanks.

Re: Anyone ordered from this vendor?
ok,
going from front to rear - check the integrity of #8 and #9:
at the rockers check whether all three (#6, #8, #8A) do exist and are still strong - you can partly find out by removing the outer panels:
I have seen cars where these were just not existing anymore....
going rear, check under and behind the rear shelf in the interior whether you see the floor... and in the rear check the integrity just by obvious visual inspection.
If you have lifted the car you can see straight lines going back - that's what I would call an integrated frame - use a screwdriver or a light hammer to check whether it is still fine steel or baaad rust. Same for the floors.
hope this helps.
ciao,
Stefan

Re: Anyone ordered from this vendor?
Ok, removed the rocker panels on both sides, scraped the loose stuff, started hitting the floorboards and metal everywhere, scraping some of the undercoating...
Starting with the worst side. A few photos from the passenger side, starting at the back rear fender:
Looking inside the side sill
Still passenger side, next to the door hinges
Still passenger side, looking at lift point on the front:
Really! A hole in the metal to install a speaker!!!! This is looking from the front fender into the inner wall of the fender, next to the door jamb

Now from the driver side:
Starting at the front and working my way back. The bright black areas is where I have removed the undercoating to check the metal:
Small crack on corner of shock tower. The rest of that area is solid
