Can anyone recommend a good brand for jack stands?
Can anyone recommend a good brand for jack stands?
Never had or used jack stands before, I have low-profile rhino ramps but I want something to raise the car so I can do brakes and such work on the fiat? Any preferred brand?
Re: Can anyone recommend a good brand for jack stands?
the wider the base, the better. Get a good quality stand, don't try to save money by getting the really cheap ones. There is either a solid base of open base with triangular legs. If you have a really smooth surface, the solid base stands are nice and strong

Jack stand adjusts from 13in.–21in. Can't remember the foot print... sorry.Ken wrote:that looks like a real nice stand, how high does it go and how big is the footprint?

Re: Can anyone recommend a good brand for jack stands?
90 bucks a pop seems a bit ridiculous per stand
Re: Can anyone recommend a good brand for jack stands?
...until the $10 stand collapses and the car is on your chest
Re: Can anyone recommend a good brand for jack stands?
my favorites have a four point base and a ratcheting center so that you don't have to monkey around with those annoying pins... and, the ratchet gives better adjustment than the pin type where you only get two or three height selections.
sears has a set of these for $25. note that the seams are welded, not just rolled together.

Man Watchuko, those are some perdy fancy jackstands . Actually, I really like them, I'm not trying to be rude. Yet, I have a set of 4 of the Sears type that MBouse suggested. They were affordable and held up my 69 Scout without any problems. Although, I have to admit that the top does not fit the spider too well arround the heat shield on the passinger side. But, they are awesome for putting under the rear axle. To be honest, this is the most thought I have ever put into jackstands. I think the sears are 2 ton stands - right
Re: Can anyone recommend a good brand for jack stands?
Actually, the craftsman ones are much more affordable for a 21 year olds budget, plus their 3 ton rated. Mark is right though, I don't want to be cheap when it comes to safety.

Re: Can anyone recommend a good brand for jack stands?
Hey guys, I did not say I had those... only that there one the ones I recommended... the round rubber pad is perfect. A lot of my friends have them and swear by them.
I have the good old units from sears, another gift from the father-in-law... I have never have been able to justify paying what those ESCO cost. And since getting the hydraulic lift, I seldom use them anyway.
But if I had no jack stands and was shopping for a set, I would try to get something similar as those ESCO... the pad is great and the pins are more secure and not too much of a hassel...
Apologies if I gave the impression I had them.
