Rear caliper sizes/question
Rear caliper sizes/question
I took off my rear calipers because one of the e brake arms broke off inside the aluminum housing. So I noticed that the piston on one of these calipers is way bigger than the other one. I also new this last summer because I had to rebuild them. My question is: Is the larger piston caliper far superior than the smaller one. I noticed that online if i were to replace the big piston caliper it would be between 3-400 dollars. I cannot remember what car car they come from but they are a direct bolt up. like a lancia, montecarlo or something not really from the US. Also that huge piston is either Chrome or Stainless and the fiat one was just dull aluminum. Anyone know anything about these calipers?
Re: Rear caliper sizes/question
I can't imagine that you have straight braking with a set as you described. Does it pull to one side when braking? Somebody has obviously swapped something out somewhere along the way. I suggest that you replace one side or the other, so that they are both the same, and I'd suggest you go back to stock for the side that isn't stock (since we know what those parts are, and don't know what the substitute parts are). The stock piston is chromed (or stainless).

Re: Rear caliper sizes/question
I happen to have just one of these on my car which is considerably larger than the 35mm? stock one on the other side of my rear axle. Its some serious money to get them both the same larger size and i wonder if its even worth it. Not much braking power going on back there 80/20?

Re: Rear caliper sizes/question
Thanks but i already have a few extra standard size rear calipers.
Re: Rear caliper sizes/question
I wouldn't put the larger set on the rear without upgrading the front.
