I went ahead and had a new starter(w/solenoid) installed last week, when I snapped the clutch cable. I had been putting off pulling it and replacing the solenoid for some time.
So, I was disappointed to see that I now have oil dripping near/onto the back of the housing of new starter. What is the hose directly above the starter? Crankcase ventilation/return or something?
Where do I find the replacement hose and how do I go about changing it out?
The starter that was installed looks like it has to be pulled now, because it was not tested properly before being shipped out. So, I would like to correct the leak while the starter is being removed/replaced again.
Is there anything else that I should go ahead and have done at this time, since I am going to have the starter out again.

Engine/Starter Leak Questions
The hose that is about 14-16" in length and roughly 3/4" in diameter?
That is your crankcase breather hose. it should connect to your air filter housing at the top end and your cyclonic trap at the bottom. if it is dripping oil, you prolly have a clogged cyclonic trap.
New hoses are availble at http://www.vickauto.com among other places.
Simple process to change those hoses, they are secured to the block, and the trap with simple hose clamps. The cyclonic trap only requires a 13mm wrench to remove the single bolt.
Why did your clutch cable snap? sounds like it could be time to add an additional engine block to fender ground strap.

I purchased the Spider a year ago June will 66K original miles.mbouse wrote:That is your crankcase breather hose
I am not sure if that is the same hose that I have connected to the air cleaner assembly. What type of connection is it for the hose to the engine block? It was hard for me to see the exact connection for the hose, but I know that it runs directly above the starter and along the block from the front portion of the engine towards the rear.
I have the new Vicks catalog (I have actually been to the counter/store in person), but I did not see a section for the hoses around the engine in the new catalog.

I changed out the timing belt first thing after buying her, because the age and mileage of the belt was unknown.
Now, I have started to drive and restore her.
The clutch was shot. After I snapped the cable, I had them install a new clutch at that time.

here is a pic of that crankcase breather assembly.
part #4 is a cast aluminum housing that bolts to the crankcase below the mechanical fuel pump ahead of the starter and behind the dipstick. it is secured with a prox 5" long bolt with a 13mm head.
part #5 is secured to part #4 and the crankcase with hose clamps. it is mounted to the block between part #4 and the dipstick.
part #3 is the larger hose i was assuming you were originally referring to. it mounts to part #4 with a hose clamp and to the air filter housing the same way.
part #2 is brass and should be located just inside part #3 on the air breather side.
none of this assembly is easy to see if the intake manifold is in place. also, these parts are easiest to install/change/replace if that manifold is not in the way. however, i do not recommend removing the manifold just to change these parts.....trust me.....
Parts 2 3 and 5 are all obtainable from the aforementioned supplier for under $20.00 total. if part #4 is missing, your best bet is to find one from a junk motor.
