question about rear fender flares

Post by maytag »

Hey all:
did the shape of the rear fender arch / flare change over the years?
My two cars (a '76 and an '80) have very distinct differences in the shape.... and I'm concerned of what I might find under the paint of one.

my '76 seems to have a gentle 'slope' on the rear arch, back to the body. my '80 is quite sharp, like the one in the pic at the top of the screen.

waddya know?
I'm no Boy-Racer..... but if I can't take every on-ramp at TWICE the posted limit.... I'm a total failure!

It looks funny to me, did they change the shape for more tire room or "fix" a bunch of rust? :x

Might have been a way to make it look like the Porsche 911 rear fenders

well, there's a small touch of rust pokin' through the paint, (you can see it in the photo above, right on the edge of the flare, slightly higher than the 'F' badge, and the wheel center) so I was going to tear into it some day anyway.....
but mechanicals are first. the things a driver. I ain't gonna worry too much about that until the rest of ti is the way I want it.

But it's like I told my wife last night: It's like finding out you've got a benign tumor. It won;t hurt anything, but eventually, its gots ta go.
