Did the CS1 have the battery in the boot ? (USA version)

Post by abcman3000 »

Hi there...I've seen a sport spider CS1 '75 -USA version- for sale recently but it had the battery in the boot. It was not moved there by the owner. It was build like that.
How can that be ?
I thought that the battery was moved in the boot only in the CSO. !??!?!?!

well, i dunn know when it happened for sure, but the '74 that i owned was positioned dead center in the boot (trunk for the non-British friendly readers). Continued in that same position through the end of the '82, i believe.

so, your 1975 is absolutely correct.

Thank you mbouse!
I guess it was moved there only for the USA versions. You have an USA version, right ?

Previous to that, the hamster cage would hit the battery case in the engine compartment, so they moved it to the trunk. Fiat then found they had lots of room up front and added a real engine.

so the phrase "kick it in the ass" when you want to go fast meant you were putting the boot to a hamster? That explainifys alot

y'know, I have had 5 spiders. 3 have had the batteries in the rear. 2 in the front. I know at least ONE of the 'front-mounted' ones was an early, small bumper model.. ('72 i think?) tough to remember. that was 22 years ago!
I'm no Boy-Racer..... but if I can't take every on-ramp at TWICE the posted limit.... I'm a total failure!

in 1974-75. But do any of you know why? (Hint: Jimmy Hoffa disappeared July, 1975)
