I'm sitting next to my friend's 14 yr old daughter, great kid, I have coached her in softball. The Who are wheezing out their set, and she turns to me and says "so, which one is the pedophile?"

Damn, these kids don't miss a thing, do they?

If you don't know what I'm talking about, you can google it. BTW, he was cleared after an investigation.

Every year, I get dragged over to sombodys house for an eating & drinking marathon to watch a bunch of grown men jump around on a green grass pasture and play with a ball and they call it the Super Bowl. Personally, I have never understood idolization of sports figures simply because they possesees an insignificant talant of being able to run, jump and catch a ball. It's all so lame and yet the drooling idiots can talk of players, stats, historical inconsiquential bullshit facts concerning some stupid ass lame team and yet not have the basic understanding of what is going on in the political arena effecting their every day lives. Screw the contry Jimmy, Bob Knob just hit another tuchdown. LAME!

I missed all the good stuff I guess, got home from the range too late. Just in time to hear "The Who" slaughter all of those poor cats on stage(Did Ozzi talk them into doing that?) Anyways my wife gets way more into football than I do, someone has to be the man in the family I guess  . The fact that any of my tax dollars were spent on anything to do with the game including the stupid census commercial ticks me off. People where getting $3,000 a night down here to rent their house out for the big game. I always love the Etrade babies though. I haven't seen a good sports cast since "Men on Sports" from "In Living Color".

This may all be true, but it proves that everyone needs a little distraction once in a while. Not everyone has a Fiat they can just jump in and tool down the road and let the nice hum of the exhaust drowned out the many aggravations that life gives us. Even I will sit through almost anything if there are glutinous amounts of food offered and I don't even drink.

OK, I hate it when I get quoted correctly and get called out. I may have been a little off the mark but, it was just my general dislike for professional sports showing through without much thought put in to back up my off the cuff remarks. It's not the game or the enthusiam I dislike, It's the blatent sensationalism I can't stand. In fact, one thing I really like about living in TX is the support given to the local teams (Go TIgers). These are kids from our nieghborhood doing the best they can. On the other hand, professional sports stripps whatever is dignified about being part of a team and sells it to the highest bidder or taker depending on which end of the orginazition you fit into. To me, the NFL (or whatever other professional association) has mined whatever pure essence the game once had and submitted for approval juiced up, false heros. I guess it's like that line in Mad Maxx - You got to give them back their hero's Maxx. I just don't see any heros comming out of professional sports. Yes, their are a few but, too few to mention.

I appologize if I offended anyone.

shoot... not just sports! even the weather channel has fallen prey to sensationalism. EVERYWHERE in our culture, everything seems to be sensationalized. a result of too many choices fed and festered by too many channels on the too prevelant cable and dish networks, each wrestling for too few viewers attention.

since when do we need 24/7 weather, hosted by national "celebrities" ?? i was just fine with temp, conditions, forecast... now we gotta have series of weather 'shows' with episodes and hosts? and, live chatting with meteorologists ??**!! this from a station that used to pride itself in rotating announcers so that none would become 'stars' ???

does anyone besides me remember when cable TV meant no commercials? satisfying the customer meant giving the viewers what THEY wanted.

go outside and PLAY... grab a ball, or a wrench, and a kid and have some real-honest fun.

but... save the first Sunday in February for the Super Bowl. i still need my downtime.

I find it very amusing how we all get but hurt when someones bashing Fiats somewhere. But most here dont hesitate to bash everthing else around them just because it dosent work for them. Talk about narrow minded.
