1800 head, performance cam.

Post by jhoffmanjr1968 »

I may be jumping the gun a little bit as I am awaiting arrival of 1800 head. I'm putting this on my 2000 spider, can I put performance cam on from International or is the clearance to tight with lift. Also would it be worth it to go with bigger valves and springs. I have a 34adf a manifold that will be going on as soon as head is finished. 4-2-1 header.
also one more question--may be a stupid one. Can the head be adjusted(shims) without being on block. Last time I went through this I had a 77 and the machine shop pretty much got everything together. That was the whole engine. I really don't want to take the engine out.
Thanks
John

the head can be completely set up on the bench.

I'd stay with the milder perf cams with the setup you have. Big valves and IAP springs won't help much with your setup. The springs aren't much better than stock. Is the head rebuilt that you're getting? The valve job is important, it affects flow alot.

no, it's not rebuilt, I was figuring 3 angle. any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. I used to own the Guy Croft Bible but ex wife ran off with it. ( okay she ran off with about everything)

3 angle valve job is a good approach. If you visit Guy Crofts' new forum he's posted lots of tech info on head prep
