yes.
2 coils rear, 1-1/2 front.
I like the height, but the effective spring rate is too much now. I'm looking forward to some new springs.. that I'll still probably end up cutting some off of... but hopefully not as drastically.

then were on the same boat, that was my planned cutting amount, but my car is on koni shocks and I'm worried that if I cut that amount it will be sitting purely on the shocks.

I don't know what the fully-compressed length of the Koni is, but what I hear is that they're pretty stiff, which might actually work with the way-too-high spring rate. At least on the rebound damping.

I'd really like to go the coil-over route, so I can adjust ride-height without adjusting spring-rate .... but budget being what it is, I'll have to make-do without.

Maytag, you're saying your spring rate is too high with the 2 coils off the back? Are you having a problem with bottoming out with a full tank of gas? We cut 2 coils all the way around on our Lemons car but I believe we'll be popping some early model back springs in. We tried bringing the ride height up with spring rubbers but the coils are so loose they may fall out. As for handling, it feels like it rides on a rail.

I think we have absolutely hijacked this thread!

Yes, As you know, the spring rate goes up as the coils come off.
It does ride like it's on rails. But for me, that's an issue. :?
The rear won't rotate and the front won't turn-in. I've got too much spring for the sway bar and the shocks, and most particularly: the vehicle weight.
And it's hitting hard-parts on bumps, and very harshly.

I was able to use the factory "bottlecap" alloys from an '84 BMW 325 on my Spider by machining out the hub space for the front two wheels to 2.40". The rears fit fine. The machining was cheap, and the wheels weren't too bad either. They now have Abarth scorpion center caps on them, which makes them look legit at a glance.

They're light & strong with a similar color and style to the fancy Campagnolo alloys that are worth more than my car. The wheels and the machining were less than $200. http://www.bavauto.com/assets/product_i ... tylecl.jpg

Due to recent budget cuts and the rising cost of electricity, gas, and oil, we have decided to turn off the light at the end of the tunnel. We apologize for any inconvenience.

Perhaps... but I like the "nimble look" rather than the "Slabs-o-Steel" look so many of the available wheels have...
