rodents eating wiring NFC

while this isn't related to Spiders, I found it interesting.
It seems in recent years most of the auto mfgs have switched from petroleum based insulation on wiring to soy-based insulation. While they should be commended for helping reduce oil consumption, it turns out that the insulation tastes good to rodents and has some nutritional value to them.
I suppose it could come into play with our cars if you're repairing wiring or rewiring the car using new wire. I haven't seen wire for sale with any description of the insulation that was used though.

Hmmm, I wonder if that's why Mickey has been munching on so many new Toyota Harnesses lately? They seem to love the Knock sensor harness under the intake on the new 5.7.

Maybe not soy based but under hood insulation, foam insulation on engine cover, Dam red squirrel chewed the shit out of my daughters car. I bought a spray called "Shot Gun" to use on the flowers to keep the deer from eating them. It contains red hot pepper and works on that squirrel also. The smell goes away in a few days.

This happened to my father-in-law's brand new Scion a couple months ago (less than 700 miles on the clock). They munched up most of the wiring relating to the ABS system and some other stuff. Cost $3,000 to repair (fortunately his comprehensive coverage paid).
