folding top cover bracket.

Post by C2 »

Lets hope I explain this correctly. I am looking for a picture of the bracket that holds the folding top cover to the rear deck of the car, by the trunk. right now I have a zip ties holding the top down. I want to fabricate something that looks close to original.

your words are jumbled to me. if you could rephrase, i'd be happy to get you some pics.

1. you are / are not talking about the boot (convertible top cover).

2. you are / are not talking about the convertible top itself, while it is in the fun loving, down position.

It sounds like you're talking about one of three parts. Go to the following website, http://www.fiatparts.com, open the catalog and go to page 58 and 59

Part number 1903771 is the rubber hold down strap that holds the top down. It connects from the side panel, to the hooks that hold the top to the windshield (when the top is in the folded down position of course)

Part number 1003 includes the hooks that are built into the convertible top boot (cover) along the back edge of the boot. The long bars with the rectangular pieces protruding are what is sewn into the back edge of the convertible top boot. The rectangular portions protrude through the back edge of the boot and hold the boot to the boot hooks near the trunk.

If you go to page 58, look at the part labeled 8 (part number is 1903804). This is the chrome hold down hook that mounts near the trunk lid.

Bruce usually has these available for shipping immediately if you want to just buy some new parts...it's much easier than fabricating something

I didn't know these are supposed to be sewn in. hmmm...mine are
just sort of wrap in there with adhesive. It seems I can never bend
those bars properly so they don't damage the body. They
could be a more pliable plastic and don't really need to be metal.

I don't have the hold down straps...are those just in case
I ROLL  her?

The bars may be glued in versus sewn...you could be right about that. I can't look at my car since it is 8,000 miles from where I live right now. I'm going by memory.

The hold down straps keep the folded top from shifting around when it is folded down. One of the common problems is that the top's movement scratches the back window if the top hold down straps aren't used.

When putting the top boot on, put the back hooks (those near the trunk) on first...then secure the rest of the boot. It should go on easily that way without damaging the paint. You can then secure the sides and bottom.

OK I am talking about the boot cover. There is a metal strip on either side of the car between the trunk and the roof. It is a chromed piece with a hook on it. the boot has a bracket or clip that fits into the hook. The part I am looking for is the fitting on the underside of the boot.

It should be this part:

The long bars with the rectangular pieces protruding are what is sewn into the back edge of the convertible top boot. The rectangular portions protrude through the back edge of the boot and hold the boot to the boot hooks near the trunk.
