Anyone near Elkins WV?

Post by 4babycar »

Anyone out there near Elkins WV? I found someone willing to give away a 82 spider that they can't afford to move. Due to it being buried in snow at the moment there is no opportunity to get pictures but if I can get there in the next two weeks then I can have it for FREE! I have spoken with the guy and it seems positive but not too good to be true but I was still wondering if there was someone out there willing to take a look.

Thanks,
Michael

I've been there many times and my wife was born there but her parents moved before the state officials could start taking her teeth! :o I will check and see if any one I know still lives near there. Sounds like a great road trip, I would leave the canoe at home though.

Looking at the map, it looks like Elkins isn't even close to a big city like Beckley. Might be a little touch and go with the crazy wintery weather they've been having.

Well the road trip has been set! A friend of mine, his 4X4 F250, trailer, come-along, etc. are headed to Elkins on Sunday morning. The latest word that I have on the car is that it is still buried in a foot of snow but the trail to it will be blazed on Friday when the car blocking it in is being taken away. I still don't have many assurances about the condition of the car but for the cost of gas and trailer rental I am taking the chance. If nothing else, he has confirmed that it has the turbo style wheel, which I have always wanted. I suppose if they are there and in good shape then it won't be too bad a deal. I will keep you all posted and if it turns out to be a junker, I will likely be taking offers on any parts you may need.

Well the adventure started tonight. The rental garage space I have been using has to re-locate so I got the keys to the new building and with the in-laws truck and the uhaul trailer I will be using tomorrow, my dad and I moved Babycar to the new space. Things were going well until I realized that I left the keys at home and with no way to position the trailer for a straight pull with the winch, I had to stop everything to go and get keys. Once back, things again went smoothly and we had her loaded, hauled across town and backed into the new garage space. Actually the new garage space is a late 1800's store front in Downtown Lynchburg. After getting through the door we realized that the trailer would not fit through the interior doorways since they are framed from chiseled stone and the 2" variation in the stone width was just enough to make it too small but with an uphill slope it was too steep to push her off. We ended up dropping her off just inside the door and once the new car makes it home then we will haul both back into my designated space. Finally, I am back home and packed for tomorrow's adventure! I will keep you all posted.

That's practically Virginia, right outside the tunnel on I-77. Some of the most beautiful interstate driving anyone will encounter in my opinion.
