Temp Sensor.

Post by macawlover70 »

Well, My car will now start sorta. It will idle rough and when I push the throttle it dies. If I feather it by hand and very slowly increase the throttle. It will get to about 2500 rpms and dies like someone turned of the key. Timing is right, getting spark, getting gas. I tested the Temp sensor through termonal 13 of the ecu and get about 45. Not good, so I checked the sensor and I think it is the same but my question is this, when I touch the tester to it it flashes anywhere from 1300 to 850 for a millisecond then goes to 200 or so and the longer I hold it there it slowly increases to like 350. Is this normal. Which is the correct reading, the initial flash of 800 or the continuous 350? It doesn't run very good when it does run. I am at a loss. When it started before it sounded alot better.

This a 81 Spider with fuel injection. I assume you are using a ohm meter? There should be a chart ( temperature oriented )to check this against. While checking at the ecu, is it unplugged from the unit? Normally temp sensors have two wires, check resistance between these while unplugged from ecu. The funky unsteady readings could be the meter.
