Anyone had any experience buying a Spider in the US and importing to Canada?

Hi Courtenay. I pm'd bruce. I brought my 80 in a couple of years ago. Once you believe it is roadworthy I took mine to Can tire and I think $65.00 had an inspection. Passes, then to your insurance company and get reg. and insurance.
Before going you need temp insurance, tell them its for an inspection as you won't have a local registration.
They can be fussy with rust, absolutly none on the structural, brakes horn ect. has to work.
Before all that though,at the border you need the bill of sale any paperwork from purchaser(reg.) given to the US agents at the crossing you will be bringing it back through. I was told 5 buis days for them to check with local authorities where the car came from to see if any issues(stolen) I got the fax # for the Oroville/ Osoyoos crossing and that helped. They will give it one of their stamps, then take that to the Can. side and the border people will then let the car in.
There is a link on the cbsa website that might(would) offer more info.
Hope that helps.
Look at Jims white one, already here.

Hi Courtney,

I also brought in an 80 a few years ago.

Chris's info above is all correct as memory serves.

I am in BC and the most confusing part for me was figuring out the registration, insurance, title distinction in the US. In BC it is all through a single authority, ICBC.

Depending on your relationship with the seller, you can send the money down a few days early and fax papers to the border control agency or you can purchase the car and park it in long term parking. If you are on the coast, the ferry parking in Fairhaven is a good deal.

Cheers,

Jordan
