That's true Mark. I only pass on the suggestion of the resistor as a way to see if a no run problem is related to the temp sensor. And, as I said, that range resistor is only good if the engine is already up to normal operating temp. The best way of course is to test the resistance of it through the temperature range.

the car should run with almost any resistor in place, just the mixture may be way off. If the car runs for only 10 seconds it's time to look at things other than the temp sensor. I agree if the car won't run at all, using a resistor in place of the sensor is a good diagnostic step
Re: OMG it runs! Sorta.
Man , I typed this already and lost it but here goes. I was getting pulse and fuel pressure but my # 1 injector that I took out was not squirting. The most it would do was run really rough for about 20 seconds and then die. It didn't make sense because it was a brand new injector. So I kooked up the old one and it squirted. So i put it in and it started up and ran farely well for about 1 1/2 minutes until I shut it off because of all the white smoke out the exhaust. I waited a bit and started it again and it smoked alot less but, I started to see smoke from my doorjamb and saw a wire smoking. I shut it of and moved the wires. They are grey and black and purple and black that has a small connector on the end. Well I tried to start it again and nothing. By the way, this is all without the temp sensor hooked up. Maybe that why it ran but not perfect, but since it wouldn't start now I put the tester on the grey and white wire and ground and when I did I heard a click under the dash. Could this wire have something to do with it starting? I am so frustrated. I think I have several problems going on at the same time. I could have some clogged injectors, I know I have a temp sensor problem because my temp sensor has plenty of ohms when I direct test the sensor and the #13 wire to the ecu has continuity but when I hook up the sensor and check I get no reading at terminal 13. Also there is the smoke issue. No water in the oil. lets see what else. the relay is good and the ecu. I guess that's it. Break time. Heres some pics.
Re: OMG it runs! Sorta.
white smoke can be caused by flooding, especially from all of that cranking you've been doing with the engine. If the temp sensor isn't hooked up, you need to have a resistor in place of it

That violet/black wire, I think is the door switch wire. That little white button on the door jam, should have that wire to signal the door chime and turn the interior lighton.

Good idea to step back and take a breather Robert. Sometimes after trying so many things to get to the point you're at you'll find the frustration level has gotten close to peak. Not to mention it's hard to remember how each test came out. Then, because you're doing so much in so many places, it's easy to leave something unattached. Oh wait. You're still young, this probablly doesn't apply to you.
Never mind.
Just relax and have a good break. If you're a Buckeye fan, you'll enjoy the Rosebowl so far.
