1971 taillight gasket/body seal

Post by Depdogy »

So I have a 71 spider with the oddball taillights. Just got them back from the chrome shop and am readt to put them on the car. My problem is i have lost one of the seals and the other is a bit shabby when placed onto the new chrome. Does anyone have a sugestion for replacements or substitutions? I know they are rare as I already purchased one replacement housing then of course there was the $280 for chrome. I just hate to place ugly onto such a good looking housing. Thanks

Bruce's Parts Bin is the only place I've found gaskets, but I wasn't happy with the fit. Like much of the aftermarket rubber, it's not a perfect fit. But if your taillights have been changed, I'd suggest you post a pic so we can try to figure out what they are

What side gasket are you looking for? I may have an old one. Since I got my gokart parts business, I have access to some chemicals that is supposed to revive rubber. Racers use them for tires and I've been impressed so far with the results. Of course, the tires aren't 35 years old, but I thought it wouldn't hurt to give some of it a try on an old gasket to see if it actually works. I'll try to document what I come up with.
