79 Fiat Spider
Living in southern Ontario 'am looking for input on insurance options for my car. I currently and paying $600 per year and am covered anywhere and doing anything, because I have a second car (which is not even insured with them). Work, store, leaving it unattended is fine. I inquired with 2 other companies and they predominantly say the car is insured for pleasure driving to shows and friends/family homes (Vintage Insurance). No errand running, no work, and no unattended stopovers for about $150 per year. Appraised value is $13 000. I am looking for an option where the premium is less but I have more flexibility with use of the vehicle.
If it exists, I would appreciate the help.
Thanks

Re: Insurance Options
Since most of us don't use the Spider for daily drivers, the most popular option is the vintage or collector car insurance.I have mine with my primary co.(State Farm),which doesnt have the mileage restrictions like some of the others.Mine is around 170 a year on $10000 stated value.

Re: Insurance Options
I get to use my car daily and my son too and each are insured to $15K loss and the cost is less than 500 year... the insurance is separate from the main car plan because we have more than 5 cars but both Spiders are covered under our umbrella coverage.

Re: Insurance Options
Hi, I live in southern ontario as well. You have 2 options with classic car insurance. One is Silver Wheels, this has a number of restrictions and I would read them carefully before I would commit. The other is Zehr Insurance Broker, with the insurance company being Echelon. They allow pleasure driving. The price is $196.00 per year on a vehicle with an appraised value of $20,500.00. Obviously you need a proper appraisal done on the car complete with pictures. I was using Allstate and it was about $1100.00 for the year. If you need anymore info let me knowpunes wrote:79 Fiat Spider

Re: Insurance Options
Thanks for the input. I found Emerson Insurance would charge about $150 per year on an appraised value of $15 000, it just cant be driven to work. Anywhere else is fine, even store parking lots which "Silver Wheels" will not cover.

Re: Insurance Options
I live in Ontario Also. Does Emmerson require an appraisal also? and can you give a contact and a number to call.
Re: Insurance Options
I dealt with State Farm in Southern Ontario and the restrictions are not as tight as you seem to have now. No appraisal needed under $20K declared value.
I'm happy so far. Of course you only find out who you have behind you when you need to make a claim. If you send me a PM I will give you the name of the agency in Brantford that I talked to. I know and trust the owner.
