trunk lock
Will a trunk lock from a 1975 or 1976 work in a 1980 spider 2000?

Re: trunk lock
Don't they mount in different places? The one Csaba sells, (Auto Ricambi) says '79+, so I vote no.

I think the world is frozen and they temporarily forgot about convertables, maybe after Santa brings FIAT goodies, interest will be renewed.bwilson27 wrote:I know. I've been waiting to see a reply, too.

Re: trunk lock
If it is any help, I have a '78 and the trunk lock is identical to the one shown in the pictures at Autoricambi. The lock has a plastic rod attached to it that is pushed towards the latch when the key is turned. This rod unlatches the trunk so you can open it. Actually a simple mechanism (speaking from experience--having had the rod come off the lock).
Re: trunk lock
are we talking tumblers and locks or are we talking latches?
a latch is interchangeable with the hood latch, throughout all the model years... i believe.
trunk locks changed locations after a fashion, and door handles changed styles mid 1978...but i think door tumblers and trunk tumblers are interchangeable.

Re: trunk lock
The lock should be interchangable, but the actuating rod is longer on the post '79s.
Re: trunk lock
i think you mean after '78, cuz the 79 is identical to the '80.... as are the rest of the Fiat two litres
Re: trunk lock
Yes. I should have said "79 and later." When the lock moved to be part of the "2000" emblem.

Re: trunk lock
I had to look at another Fiat 2000 to find out where the latch was to drill a hole in mine since the rod had fallen off. I don't know what year car I was looking at but I do know their latch mechanism was different from mine when I got mine open.

Re: trunk lock
the latch and rod is there i just didnt know if i could take the whole lock assembly that fits in the 2000 emblem out of 75 or 76 and make it work in 1980 2000. i hope that explains it better

Re: trunk lock
I'm still confused. The 2000 emblem didn't come on cars until 1979 when the engine size went to 1995 CCs. So 75-76 didn't have the 2000 emblem.
