I finished the install of my stereo and center upper console and finaly hooked up console light and lighter. I go and take car for spin and listen to the new tunes. After 30 minuets of driving around the car starts running like it is out of gas. Gauge says 1/4 but just to be safe I top off tank. The car stalled at stop sign and toom about a minute to get it to start. Drive some more and it happens at another stop sign. I start to head back to warehouse and the car dies. I tried for a few minutes to get it to start but nothing happened. I had to push the car the last 200 feet to my bay. I could not get the car inside becasue of the incline. I check ond the hood and tapped the duel filter a few times and tried again. The car started right up. Once under some good lighting I noticed the filter was dirty. I replaced the filter 3 to 4 hundred miles ago. I have also opened the take at that time and it looked pretty clean.
What could be breaking and causing all the crude in the filter. You can see the grit on the filter element and there is even some that settled to the bottom of the filter. Some pieces are black, brown and maybe even silver. Any ideas.
Damn it I was having fun.
Fuel filter ruined my night
Re: Fuel filter ruined my night
get a bigger filter
if the tank isn't rusty, the lines could be deteriorating. Usually if the lines are that bad the tank is bad too

Would it be worth it to unhook line before the filter and pump a quart of fuel into a glass jar. Get another clean glass jar and pump more to see if the crud keeps coming? If not, you're in the clear (pun just came with it).
