Elec Fuel Pump Compatibility
Will an electric fuel pump out of a carbed '76 work in an FI '80?
Assuming it worked in the '76 to begin with - which it did very well, thanks for asking (just heading off any smart-alec comments before they have a chance to fester).

Steve, you cant head off smart ass comments! LOL
Are you kiddin me! That thing looks like it belongs in the Henry Ford Museum, next to the invention of the light bulb.
Does that thing produce steam power! Go Green!
Looks like it might make a good MOONSHINE STILL in the back woods of North Carolina.
Fuel Injection pumps are state-of-the-art in design and aerodynamic, not to mention they can go from 0 to 40 in a blink of an eye.
Maybe you can recycle it for its brass content.

Every car that pump was in, "crashed". Opps. Sorry! Might have gone a little to far there. Really its a handsome pump though.fiasco wrote:it worked in the '76 to begin with - which it did very well, thanks for asking.

Ok. . .
Now that you guys have publicly ripped my fuel pump on the forum and irreparably damaged its market value . . . one of you has to buy it!
Just kidding (not really - $30 plus shipping).
hee hee - joking (not joking - I prefer Paypal)

Re: Elec Fuel Pump Compatibility
Steve,
I see you took some hazing for asking but I appreciate you finding out before I got it back to the house and it didn't work on my FI. You win some, you lose some.
It does kinda look like a mini moonshine still

It's nice how the wire size is half as big too. Who does these things and why do I always buy cars from them?

Re: Elec Fuel Pump Compatibility
I heard the Bosch FI pumps can be rebuilt. Does anyone know who does this?? Also Rock Auto sells an aftermarket pump for under $70 new. I think they are made by Performance Electric Co. located in TX. Has anyone tried one of these??
Re: Elec Fuel Pump Compatibility
I was looking at the Rock Auto's but I dont think the ones under $100 will work on FI cars.
Re: Elec Fuel Pump Compatibility
Forget about rebuilding the Bosch pumps. Autozone carries new pumps for less than $100. Dont know about the Rock Auto pump.
Re: Elec Fuel Pump Compatibility
Pope, I have the same 80 FI as you, what pump are you using from Autozone? Craig told me about a replacement for a Ford that will work that's around $100. Do you know of others that are under $100? I couln't find one.

Re: Elec Fuel Pump Compatibility
Yup that's the same one for the Ford. I guess its just more expensive down here in Texas.
Thanks,
Rick
