Tire Question

Post by RedWolf »

I have the "Iron Cross" type rims on my 1977 Spider as I liked them on my previous 1980 model. My Pirellis are shot and can't seem to find any 13" Pirellis available or even Michelins.

What size can be ran on them? I think that they're currently 175-70-13 (just put the car in the shop for new shocks and noticed the tires but can't remember w/certainty). Also, if Pirellis and Michelins are out of the question, what good tires are out there and a good place to get them?

Any help is much appreciated.

I'd go with 185/70/13's on a stock with 13" wheel. Try the Tire Rack:

195x6013 or 205x60x13, Sumitomo is one of the few choices available and we've had good luck with them

205x60x13, Sumitomo
Mark, are there any downsides to going this wide?

Anyone have any pictures of how this looks?

If I could pick up some cheap used 14's or 15's I would, but I think I'm going to have to stick with the 13's for a while.

I would like to see a pic of this setup also.I have 13's on my 76 and need tires soon. There isnt much available in 185/70's,from a perf. standpoint. The Sumi's look like a good tire in the wider 60 series aspect ratio.

I'm running the Sumitomos, though we'll probably all have to upgrade wheel sizes if they stop making 13" tires.

Anyone have experience with the 205's rubbing? It seems like they would.

Thanks Mark and dartme for the pix.The tire is a nice fit under there, and a lot more rubber on the road.Looks like the way to go with the stock 13'' wheels.
