Removing Federal bumpers

Post by okartguy »

Both bumpers on my '80 are tweaked, and I'd like to go ahead and pull them off the car. I took a cursory look around, and couldn't find the bolts that hold the main tubes into the frame rails. Does anyone have a writeup or photos documenting the best way to do this? TIA-

the main tubes bolt onto the collapsing shock mount. You'll have to remove the plastic covers to access the nuts. The shock mounts then bolt to the unibody with 2 bolts each

On the other end of the shock, there's one large bolt that threads through the shock and frame rail.

The rear shock on the driver side can be removed by unbolting the gas tank. You should not have to remove it. You'll have to muscle it out of the way with all the lines connected, so be careful, but it is doable.
