When I remove the heater valve, should I be expecting lots of fluid or just a little. I am asking, since I know someone has replaced it, and wanting to know how big of bucket or container that I'll need.
Thanks

Re: Heater Valve
I'd put as big as a container as I could get in there just to be safe. I'd say there could be as much as a litre in it.
1978 Spyder 1800 make that 2L! Finally making real progress!

You may be able to blow most of the coolant out of the car after removing the hoses if you have compressed air. All mine were allready bypassed & empty when I got them. You might want to soak the core to valve nuts with PB Blaster for a few days, all of mine broke & I had to get another core.

Got the valve out and now undstand why I had no heat. The valve was completely rusted closed. I have replacement pipes, but will order new hoses tomorrow. I am also going to take the heater core to a radiator shop and have it cleaned and tested. So mush for a quick and fairly inexpensive fix.

Re: Heater Valve
I was wondering if anyone has experience using an "under the hood" heater control valve with a FIAT spider? This past week I had the standard heater control valve fail drastically which caused a real mess on the passenger side. Luckily, no one was sitting in the passenger seat at the time or they could have been burned. This is the second time that this has happened to me with a FIAT spider. Most other cars that I am aware of put the heater control valve on the engine side of the firewall so a failure makes a mess in the engine compartment rather than scalding the passenger.
I am thinking of relocating the heater control valve to the engine bay and I was wondering what advice I might get here.
Thanks, Jim
