Spider on the cover of major magazine! Finally respect!

Post by BurbankJalopy »

Well, finally we get some respect for the Spider! November 09 Hemmings Sports and Exotic Car has an 8 page spread, and cover mention of the 81 Spider LE. I happen to own an LE model, making it that much more exciting for me. It's a great magazine without a lot of advertising, and I recommend you to subscribe to it. The article compliments the car overall. Look at how gorgeous the Spider is versus the Aardvark nosed competitor of the era.

S/E has been leaning our way ever since the Fia-Chry announcement. Great news to actually see this in print, on the front cover, and a full size picture inside.

They've had several favorable articles on the 124 Spider and X1/9 over the years since that publication started. They don't knock the cars and typically feature at least one owner.

I was sitting in a small airport here in South Florida waiting for a friend to fly in and pick me up. He was going to fly me to the West Coast of Florida so I could pick up my Spider. Feeling kind of poor waiting around at the airport with the elite I sat down on the couch and picked up a Magazine with one of the Pinin Farina family members on the cover in front of a jet they had just finished. The article was on the many design projects of the company including an interview. In the interview he was asked of all the cars he designed which was his favorite. He said "Well since we just completed the new "Ferrari" I would have to say that one. But if I had a second choice it would be the Fiat Spider." Suddenly I didn't feel that poor. Here he could clearly have any car on earth he wanted and he loved the Fiat Spider! I now wish I stole that magazine from the table so I could scan it now like this one.

See also Hemmings Sports & Exotic December 2009 issue. On page
30, there's an article on Monterey Weekend 2009. On the following
page, in between a row of red ferraris and a row of mid-fifties Alfa
Berlinettas is a beautiful, shiny, topless, SPIDER!

Lantana airport is still plugging along and hasn't changed very much. One of the few pieces of land bigger than an acre that was not turned into condo's during the fluffed up realestate bom. The sunset in the picture is because I live on Lake Mangonia so I have beatiful sunsets every night while living on the East Coast, pretty cool really. 8)

It's an Anniversary Edition numbered Spider. Didn't they all come in the Champagne color?

The color is not the best I agree. I have the same car/color. That 'LE' is an 'Anniversary Edition' for Fiats 50th Anniversary. The interior had a few extra things too on the LE's. Yes, all LE's were the Champagne color. I don't know how they look with good paint, but I plan to paint mine a diff color.
