Check out IAP's catalog. I know they sell a conversion kit.

Pertronix is good. Just remove the points and capacitor, and you are done. It's dependable and you don't have to add or remove stuff, so you don't lose in originality, just put the pickup in the distributor. You can also use the Lucas Sports coil with it and have a really good combo.

Vassilis (and all other readers),
I have been looking around for Pertronix Ignitor for my 124. I couldn't find any suitable kits under 'FIAT' in their parts catalog, however there was a kit called MR-141 under 'Marelli'. The distributor designation was not the exact same as the one I'm running however. I have a S144 B from a 1608cc 124 BC, the number in their list was S144 TX(9A). Are you running a exh cam mounted distributor, and if you are, is this the kit you used?
Thanks for you help!

Emil,
I bought the Pertronix MR-141 for the same distributor and I had trouble with it. The magnetic ring did not seem to sit at the right spot when pushed onto the distributor shaft. It also tended to move up and down a bit when running and the results were not great. I went back to the original single points set-up, and now I am going to put in the Crane XR3000.

Josh,
Thanks for the info. I have never actually seen an Ignitor kit, but I'm guessing that the magnetic ring sits over the lobes on the shaft?
Did you get a feeling that the magnetic ring's profile simply didn't match the shaft or were there other issues?
The reason I'm asking is that Ignitor is readily available in Sweden, whereas Crane is not, and ordering from the US means customs fees and expensive shipping.
I have distributors from Lancia Beta Montecarlo, FIAT Brava and the 124 BC unit I'm currently using. I was hoping I could get one of these to work with the Ignitor but if there are other issues I'll just have to go with the Crane.

Emil,
The magnetic ring in the Pertronix kit fit onto the shaft ok, but when it was pushed all the way on - as far as it could go so it would be "seated", it just did not line up perfectly with where it needed to be in relation to the pick-up unit. I tried several ways of "tweaking" the set up, but with this distributor it was not going to get to a point where everything would stay solidly in position.
The engine ran fine when it all lined up, and the kit was extremely simple to install. The problem was that the magnetic ring would move up and down a bit, and then the engine would start to miss. The set up was simply not a perfect fit for the S144 Marelli distributor. It might work with one of the other distributors you mentioned.
I bought a Crane XR 3000 through Vicks for about $140. I think they would ship parts to you in Sweden - they are a great supplier - worth contacting. Here is an email contact there: info2004@vickauto.com

Thanks for the useful info Josh. Looks like I'll have to try something else instead of the Ignitor. I'll drop Vick's a line, hopefully it works out.
