14x6 Wheel/Tire Combos?

Post by Newell33 »

I've ended up with 14x6 wheels for my '76 Spider and will be ready to purchase some tires soon. I'd like to end up with about the same diameter combo as the original tire/wheel combination. I would, though, like to go as wide as I can without bulging over the side of the wheel. My car came with mismatched tires so I'm not 100% sure of the OE tire size. I've seen some info online, but if I remember right, I've seen two different sizes listed, and sometimes the aspect ratio is missing. First of all, can anyone confirm the OE tire size? Secondly, what works best with 14x6 wheels on our cars?

Thanks,
Josh

Plug in the original tire size (165/80 R 13 or 185/70 R 13) and you will find that a 195/60 R14 will work about perfectly. This is also a good size for a 6" wide rim. Alternatively a 205/55 R 14 will work but be a bit short and is about as wide as you want to go on a 6" rim.

On my day to day car I have 205's on a 6" rim and they are bulgy but not too bulgy.

Was looking at the 15X7 Rota's on Ebay...

Just confirming... the "7" means width? ... so, extra wide?

What size tire can be put onto these?

It will depend on the offset of the rim you are looking at.

A 7" rim may or may not work. You will want to try and find one that has similar offset characteristics to the wheels you see on the Spider at the top of the forum, the so called Turbo rims. The pictured rim is a 5.5x14 with 25mm offset.

Be sure they are 4x98mm PCD (bolt circle). If you use wobble bolts ( http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/PCD-VARI ... 0002r10874 ) you may be able to use 4x100. In either case get some rings to ensure they are hub centric as this keeps the rim from wandering a real problem with wobble bolts.

Dave Voss prepared an excellent primer on wheels for Fiats:

Hope that helps.

I have 15x7 with a 23mm positive offset.I run 205/50x 15's with no issues whatsoever.I love the look too.

Yeah, not really keen on the "wobble" system... Rather chase down a good fitting 4x98 rim.

Craig, possible to post a picture of your setup? Sounds intriguing, but before I spring for more $$$ be keen on a looksee.

Thx for the advice everyone.

Nice ride :D

I was worried they'd look "crammed" in the wheel wells... nope, looks sharp!
