78 / 82 Parts Compatability

Post by FiatSparky »

I have a 78 Spider and I found a 82 Spider locally that I may purchase for a parts car. As the title states I am wondering what parts are compatible between the 2 years? I mainly want the seats, conv top, sunvisors and maybe a couple of other things. The rest of the car I'll probably part out to re-coop some $$.

Thanks in advance!

the seats will fit, but they are a different design.
the tops are different at the #1 bow.
sun visors will swap, but a brand new after market set from a catalogue vendor is loads cheaper than a parts car.

trunk lids are different inside and of course, the hoods are different. and depending on which '78 you have, the doors may be incompatable.

steering wheels are different.

what else where you considering swapping into the '78?

FiatSparky, I'll be in Calgary in a couple of weeks. I would be interested in the Engine parts, specifically because I have an '81, and the fuel injection will be common to both. Is the car not worth keeping whole? Email me at lgratto@effectivewriter.com with your phone number and I'll be happy to call you to discuss it more. (I'm in Victoria, BC)

I also have a '78 parts car and can offer you stuff from it, although the things you mention are not in good condition on mine.

Every now and then I wonder how many Fiat Spider's are in Calgary... well, seems you have TWO! Lol

Might be interested in a few parts, see what you haven't got plans for... Seatbelts (black), console pcs in black (see a trend?), other shiney bits that make me go "hmmmm"

Tuesday or Thursday night ok?

all of those mismatched parts can be made to fit without too much difficulty. Some of the parts you won't need could be semi-desirable. Such as the FI wiring harness, fuel pump, tail lights, etc

If you want that 82 convertible top to fit on the 78 you will need to transfer the whole top frame assembily, which might be easier than trying to remove and reinstall a top itself. The holddown points on the windshield may or may not fit right, but adjustments can be made.
