dented oil pan, how bad?

Post by htchevyii »

So, after preaching to my wife about how she had to be careful not to rip off the air dam or dent the oil pan, I went and did it myself! The air dam is fine, but I'm wondering how concerned I should be about the pan? The dent is in the driver's side of the pan. Should I be worried about the pan being too close to the pickup? Or am I ok? I guess it's time to put on the oil pan guard I bought from Ramzi about a year ago, just need to paint it. P.S. don't tell Heather. :D

I'll second that. I have a 2L apart and the pickup would be ok.
By the way Trey.. do you wash the underside of the car as well? That looks really clean.. no oil drips.. I can only wish.

Okay, I'll bite. Why is that not bad enough to damage the pickup? Wrong location? Not deep enough (dent)? I ask because I have a dent, but have never had the pan off and been able to see for myself exactly where it is and what sort of dent would damage it.

I'll try and take a few pics today when at the shop. I have a 2L block pump and pan and try to figure this out,but I think the pickup is back a bit from the front of the pan.

I also dont think that it damaged the pickup, but...what it has done is decrease the space between the pan and the pickup, allowing for less room for the oil to flow to the pickup.

By the way...what did you roll over!

Uh, um, I wasn't going to say how it happened, but I'll just say that breakfast with the British guys involved several cups of coffee and biscuits and gravy. Combine this with some twistie roads in the backwoods and I was a little more hasty in "parking" than I should have been and might have ran over a gravel berm.
