Bought a car on Ebay. Anyone recommend a good transport
Bought a car on Ebay. Anyone recommend a good transport
I bought a 1975 Fiat 124 on ebay. It is about 356 miles from me in Nashua NH. Anyone have any company they can recommend in the auto transport business. I got about 10 quotes from $400 to $1500 from various companies and I am trying to figure out who to use.
thanks

Is renting a trailer and towing it out of the question? I've towed mine 800 miles, and there are others who have done even more. After seeing a video recently of a commercial tower almost drive a car off the trailer, I'd rather not trust someone I don't know with my car!

I would highly recommend getting a friend with a pickup or largish SUV and rent either a Uhaul trailer or tow dolly and bring it home. That sounds like a great road trip opportunity which should be a there and back in one day.
For such a short trip I wouldn't bother using a delivery company, all manner of possible ways for them to damage your new pride and joy.

Well.
Uhaul and Budget want $20 a day and $1.00 a mile. So that's around $735 plus gas for a one day rental, If I do the whole trip in one day. Plus $65 a day for the auto transporter. No rental car place around here except for budget/uhaul will rent pickups with hitches.
I am actually thinking of buying a cheap pickup truck. It would be cheaper and then I would have one if I need one.
But a $400 transport charge sounds good instead of the high uhaul rip off.

Unfortunately all my friends and family seem to be pickup impaired....No pickup anywhere.
I am going to look at a few cheap ( around $1200) in the area tomorrow.
And this is my second Fiat. I have been a member for a year already with Fiat #1 and I actually drove it 700 miles around trip to FFO in Valley Forge. So I am doubling my Fiat madness with this new purchase.

Just order from the cheapest carrier, get insurance and a delivery date in writing. find out if is coming in one truck all the way. (less risky I believe) that's what I did on previous purchases and have no problems. you still going to have plenty of things to fix on your car anyway. Once the guy who delivered my fiat thought it was an expensive car and was expecting some kind of car collector to receive it, that probably helped they way he treat it.

Actually, I think Fiat madness increases exponentially. So double your Fiats = 4 times the madness.markpink wrote:And this is my second Fiat. I would still try and explore the trailer option if possible, the last time I used a transporter they caused over $2000 worth of damage to my Skyline, I just dont risk it anymore.....i just use the wifes Tahoe, LOL

I was told there is a web site where you post where the car is and where you want it moved to and carriers will bid a price. If you get lucky there could be a carrier that has a spot for the car and will bid low rather than be empty.
As far as how crazy owning Fiat Spiders can get, I now have 6 on wheels and one chopped up parts car. Wife mentioned the yard work is not getting done. I think she still loves me.
Good Luck

Hey Mark,
I met you and your son at FFO.If they are insured ,it seems to me that shipping it would be fine.It is definitely more economical for you.Of course there is something to be said for owning a truck.I have 2 Fiats, also.Double the pleasure, double the fun....and insurance....headaches....The next thing I need to double is my garage space!! .I really do enjoy working on the project car.My damn 82 is just so well sorted out,I only pull the cover to drive it.

Hey everyone. A brother-in law came up with a big pickup out of nowhere yesterday afternoon.
I am now in hotel in Syracuse ny with the borrowed truck and a Uhaul car transporter.
My son and I pickup the car at 8am. I will post pics when I get it back to nh

I understand. I was replacing things on my 1977 that didn't need replacing just to be working on something. Now with this 1975, I will have things to really work on. We will see exactly what after I get her home.
This was a really cheap car. That looked really reaaly good in pictures on eBay. Worse case the wheels/tires and interior are worth more then what I paid for the car. $500. It was a best offer and I started at 300. The owner is loosing his storage and had to sell it this weekend.
Take care.
Mark
