dual carb conversion

Post by Torxx »

Rep. at International auto parts said bad idea to use a two carb set up on my '79 spider. He said too much carb too low compression.

Is a two carb a viable option to increase performance?

Thanks

from your various posts it sounds like you're looking for that "magic bullet" for a big hp gain. Ain't gonna happen. Each mod will produce some improvement (if your changes complement each other).
Removing the cat will help, but improving the entire exhaust system is better. Replacing the stock carb and manifold will help lots, but overcarbing the engine will hurt low rpm performance. There recently was a discussion here about perf cams. You should read that thread also.
Changing parts without a plan to coordinate everything can end up costing you in the long run

Thanks so cal. I think you are refering to someon else looking for the magic bullet. This is my firstpost re: engine performance. Loss of low rpm would be an unacceptable trade-off. What would you recommend as good engine / exhaust upgrade to the car.

Exhaust recommendation:
Torxx-I had SoCalMark install his Python Header,
exhaust and Magnaflow Muffler on mine and she is awesome...great exhaust note and
appearance, and gobs of power. I guess he could ship one your way :D

I had read your cat conv post and then the carb post. The dual carb question has some variables; Fiat built 1438s with dual carbs and they had good perf. They did have more compression, but if you went with small carbs you might be able to pull it off. That's a pretty expensive upgrade though. Just changing to a 32/36 carb and 1800 intake will give a good boost over what you've got

The carb and intake swap will bring her to life! Just took PO on a ride, he could not believe it was the same car! Try readin previous posts w search eng. There is a wealth of info out on the web, it is my best "tool".

Lol, you're right! The first time I took my car out after installing the dual Webers, I was afraid something was wrong with it. When I stepped on the gas it sounded like an airplane and I was expecting wings to sprout from the rocker panels. I don't even turn the radio on anymore. :D

came across a really good resource regarding fiat carbs, intakes, exhaust, etc.. maybe you have come across it too, if not it's worth checking out.

I have played with many carbs throught the years if you can find a Weber 36 or 38 ADL you will not be disappointed, just ask racydave. If you do not want to go for a ADL find a 32/36 DGV or DFV they are not bad for the money. Do not pay 500+ for a Weber 34 ADF as they are not worth it!!!

BTW I have a nice carb FS.

does my '79 spider have enough compression for the 36 adl. i read that cylinder head might need to changed? why is the 34 adf a poor choice?
