Hi
Just got a spider and want to restore. Tuff time trying to figure out who is who as some businesses are closed but still online. Anyone know of a Canadian mail order or actual Fiat supply house living in Canada? Would purchase from US but import tax, shipping etc screws up the pricing. Immediate need is twin tail muffler, front end rebuild, shocks all around, Brake rebuild kits and better rotors and pads. That is just for starters. Any pointers and or contacts would be appreciated.
Thanks Much Jim

Re: Canadian or reliable US Part Suppliers
Hi Jim - welcome to the forum. I live in Ottawa, so I have an idea about Canadian sources. Unfortunately, many parts are available to us readily only from the suppliers listed on this site who are based in the US. I have had success buying things like brake calipers and lines from my local NAPA store. The local specialist garage - owned by Italians - that many colleagues rely on for maintenance have direct sources in Italy that they rely on.
Maybe Launieg or narfire can chime in with their favourite BC sources.

ItalMotors (what a weird name...) in Edmonton.
Due to recent budget cuts and the rising cost of electricity, gas, and oil, we have decided to turn off the light at the end of the tunnel. We apologize for any inconvenience.

I've only bought from Vicks (in the US) so far. Great, fast service and they are wise about shipping it via US parcel post so that we don't get the humongous UPS brokerage fee For example, my full gasket set, timing belt and idler bearing arrived in about four days, no border brokerage fee and no duty was added. Oh, I have bought some stuff locally: dizzy magenetic pickup through the Victoria VW/Porsche dealer, coil module from NAPA (the Delco part being exact anyway), outer wheel bearing at Canadian Tire.

The info about UPS verses parcel post and so forth is the best advice yet. That is what thru me off wanting to order from across the border was all those BS charges, taxes etc. No worries now!. Thanks so much all of you for the input.

Yeah, I've learned that the hard way (learned it "several times", in fact!!).SpiderJim wrote:The info about UPS verses parcel post and so forth is the best advice yet. Buy from sellers that ship USPS = NO DUTY.
Buy from sellers that ship UPS = HUGE Brokerage fee, small DUTY (I've payed $8 duty, $60 "brokerage fee" for a $90 item before... PLUS SHIPPING!!!)

This may be common knowledge, but if you live near Niagara there is a business in Niagara Falls NY that you can ship anything to and pick it up and drive it back across the border yourself. Canada Customs have been pretty forgiving to me, but I am generally talking about $50 packages or less, and not car parts so far. The outfit in NFNY has always charged me only $5 or $6 for the service, even for fairly large boxes, and considering that freight for even a book from some US sources can be $50, its a good deal.

They have a website.

Thx for Niagra info but I live in BC on Vancouver island. So to go south of the border requires a fifty dollar ferry ride both ways and a 350 mile drive both ways. May as well just pay those rat robbing Bast$#@ds their blood money and save the drive. Been checking out tires etc. Yokamas in US are $92 with $50 shipping for four. Purchase here they are around $250 per and up plus shipping then installation then GST then PST then a coffee for the installers and probably a tip and a biscuit for the dog. So why do I have another home sitting empty in las Vegas? Must be the salmon here?

Hi Jim.
That sounds a bit steep for the Yokohama's here in Can. I thought I paid around $680-720 installed taxes in. Have to see what species Yokohamas they are though.
Do try Ital Motors in Edmonton,I had no problem getting parts from them even engine gasket sets for the 1608 at a (I thought) fair price.Rad hoses, rings bearings, brake bits, flex disks, ect. I sometimes do buy things from the states, especially now the loonie is getting closer to par,and have it shipped to a mail drop in Oroville WA. If you want, pm me and perhaps get some of your swag shipped there and I could bus to Cambell River. (bus is freeking expensive though)
Got a freezer full of spring and coho? Buddy in Nanaimo went up the Albernie Inlet and has done well this year.

Re: Canadian or reliable US Part Suppliers
a small update; USPS no longer offers Parcel Post to Canada. Air mail only, so either Express Mail or Priority Mail are the two options. When I shipped a set of wheels to BC today from Calif, the clerk told me that if Parcel Post was still available it would take a month for the wheels to arrive. Priority Mail is 6-10 days, but much more expensive. Parcel Post used semi trucks for ground delivery, and shipments wouldn't leave until a full load was ready
