Ignition module, etc

Post by Danno »

I'm planning on getting the Accel performance ignition module from Vicks along with a new coil and plug wires. I know a lot of this will be overkill for my initially stock system, but it'll be nice to know that the ignition won't be the weak point in my system as I perform more upgrades in the future. Does anyone have any experience with performing these mods? are there any other mods I should make to go along with these upgrades? Oh, and I just bought some platinum plugs. Can I gap them wider than before with a module/coil/wire upgrade?

Hi Danno

I bought the Accel Module ( part # 35361) i've used a number of
different coils over the years I know the Accel Big yellow one going
for around 49 bucks is the best bang for the buck hands down and
wires I'd say the Magnecor but these are what i like maybe you
have your own brands .
About the gapping the plugs I don't know what to say about that
I am sure it would be ok after adding the up grades but i think
the platinum plugs need to be set at a stock gap for some reason
I don't use those any more maybe Mark would know he's a good
source for this stuff . The last time i used Platinum plugs was ages
ago and I forget why I stopped using them ???

My experience with platinum plugs was not good. They fouled too easily, but I was running stock ignition and my carb was a tad rich.

I only use platinum plugs when specified by oem. My experience is that they don't clean up well after fouling for any reason. IMHO, platinum is for longevity, not superior performance

well, my plugs are still in the box, so they can be returned. What do you suggest?
