Mark...Everyone,
Can you give me the rough direction that the clutch cable takes on it's way to the fork. Past which beside what etc. Sorry to be a pain, but i want to get this right.

Baz,
The folks in the US won't be able to help the clutch pedal/cable is on the left side in their cars.
Here's a picture of my FI car

Sounds like you are getting there Baz. Yep, no help from this side of the pond, we drive on the wrong side. Just don't get it caught in the timing belt.

Re: Clutch again please
It might be a bit easier to see it in this pic without all of Adrian's fuel injection gear.
The clutch cable is the heavy black cable running from behind the distributor, around the front of the engine (where it is tied to a cooling fan support bracket with a couple of plastic zip ties) and then down under the carbys to the hole in the bell housing where the outer section of the cable ends. The inner cable then runs in a straight line from there to the clutch fork.

I'm having far too much fun building a new motor for my '64 Cooper S historic racer. No where near as much bling on the BMC unit compared to the Fiat, but when you're getting near enough to 100 bhp per litre from a 3 bearing crank and 5 port head, you've got to admire the 50 year-old design.
As for a 'holiday' in Texas .... perhaps next year if the offer still stands
